The movie premiered on HBO five days before Reeves himself became paralyze. Christopher Reeve stars as a cop who is shot in the line of duty and becomes paralyzed from the waist down. There's decent script and excellent performers-it's just mar by low budget treatment that makes the film look so cheap. He's good at this, as is Joe Mantegna as his detective peer, trying to bring him down. But very eerie to have Reeve in a role that has him wheelchair bound not long before his horse riding accident. And interesting to note Bill Macy's involvement as co-writer on script and supporting role before his career blow up. As if that's not enough, his brother starts banging with his wife while Reeves standard TV movie here but with an interesting twist. A preventable shoot out results in Reeve losing feeling below his waist. The basic set up is that Christopher Reeve is a popular police officer who often has to cover for his incompetent younger cop brother. Would never have guessed this was an HBO movie as the cast and production values are pretty top notch. It is an eerie coincidence to be sure, but I feel it overshadows just what a high - quality unique thriller this is. This movie is always going to have the tragic distinction of showing Christopher Reeves character paralyzed in a wheelchair just days before he was actually paralyzed in real life.
